XRP Whales Move 1.67 Billion Tokens to Binance as Price Slips

Key Takeaways

XRP Whales Move 1.67 Billion Tokens to Binance as Selling Fears Mount

XRP’s biggest holders are making some serious moves, and the numbers are enough to make traders look twice. Over the past 30 days, whale inflows to Binance have reached 1.669 billion XRP, their highest reading in seven months, just as the cryptocurrency struggles to hold its footing near $1.30.

Cryptoquant is sounding the alarm over the mounting exchange activity, although the data carries an important catch. Billions of tokens arriving at an exchange don’t necessarily mean billions are headed for sale, leaving traders to decipher what the latest movements actually signal.

Binance Whale Deposits Reach Their Highest Level in Seven Months

Cryptoquant flagged the development in a post on X, declaring, “XRP Whale Inflows to Binance Hit Seven-Month High.” The analysis, published by Cryptoquant contributor Arab Chain, tracks cumulative XRP transfers from large holders into Binance over a rolling 30-day period. The metric previously reached approximately 1.65 billion XRP in September before retreating, only to rebound above that threshold in recent days.

The latest reading of 1.669 billion XRP represents roughly $2.22 billion at a market price of $1.33 per token. That’s a tidy sum of cryptocurrency moving toward one of the world’s largest trading platforms, although the cumulative figure doesn’t establish how much XRP remains on the exchange.

“Increased whale inflows to centralized exchanges can increase the amount of XRP available for trading, potentially raising the risk of selling pressure,” Cryptoquant shared, citing Arab Chain’s research.

Exchange Wallets Hold More Than 22 Billion XRP

The whale activity arrives against an even larger backdrop. XRP Insights data for Oct. 15 indicates that publicly attributed exchange wallets collectively control approximately 22.06 billion XRP across 699 wallets associated with 24 exchanges.

That represents roughly 22.1% of XRP’s maximum 100 billion-token supply and approximately 32% of its reported circulating supply. South Korea’s Upbit leads the pack with approximately 6.44 billion XRP, followed by Coinbase with 5.84 billion and Binance with 2.76 billion.

The South Korean exchange Bithumb ranks fourth with 1.85 billion XRP, while Uphold rounds out the top five with 1.75 billion. Together, these five platforms account for approximately 18.64 billion XRP, representing nearly 85% of the publicly attributed exchange balances tracked in the dataset.

The five exchanges account for approximately 84.5% of the 22.06 billion XRP tracked across 24 exchanges and 699 wallets. Binance also recorded the largest weekly increase among the leading exchanges, adding approximately 54.6 million XRP to its tracked wallets. Across the broader exchange sample, balances increased by roughly 84 million XRP between Oct. 13 and Oct. 15.

Still, there’s an important distinction between exchange custody and available selling inventory. Much of the XRP held by these platforms belongs to customers, while some balances include wrapped-token reserves and operational funds. Unidentified wallets also fall outside the dataset, meaning the figures are estimates rather than a complete accounting of exchange-controlled XRP.

XRP Price Takes a Beating as October Losses Mount

The latest exchange activity comes as XRP faces a difficult stretch in the market. On Thursday, the token traded near $1.33 to $1.34 after briefly slipping toward $1.28 to $1.29 earlier in the session.

XRP entered October near $1.49 and has since surrendered approximately 10% to 12% of its value. Over the past week, losses have approached 5% to 8%, depending on the measurement period. The cryptocurrency has also struggled beneath several closely watched daily moving averages, with traders examining the $1.28 to $1.32 region for signs of support. Against that backdrop, the increase in large-holder transfers to Binance adds another variable to an already nervous market.

Whale Transfers Raise Questions, Not Certainty

Still, Arab Chain’s analysis throws cold water on the assumption that every large deposit represents an impending sale. The researcher explains that transfers can reflect portfolio restructuring, movements between wallets or other services available through Binance. In other words, exchange inflows reveal where tokens are going, not necessarily what their owners intend to do next.

Arab Chain recommends examining net exchange flows, trading volume and price behavior together before drawing conclusions about selling pressure. For XRP traders, the contradiction is difficult to ignore. Large holders are transferring billions of tokens toward Binance while the cryptocurrency trades near its October lows. Whether those deposits represent preparations to sell or routine repositioning is the question the inflow figures alone cannot answer.
